Behind the practice
Dr. Carly Bobal is a clinically trained licensed psychologist who is also a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and owner of Behind the Behavior Psychology, PLLC. She is licensed to practice in both North and South Carolina, after relocating from Baltimore, MD where she completed her clinical work in a Pediatric Hospital affiliate of John’s Hopkins Medicine and University of Maryland Medical System. From the busy school hallways to interprofessional pediatric clinics, Dr. Bobal learned quickly the value of collaborative relationships and a tailored approach to promote child development and positive family functioning.
Dr. Bobal specializes in developmental and psychological assessment, behavioral parent training, and psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and their families. Serving roles in both clinical-school psychology and special education, she is also a strong advocate in educating and supporting parents during the school IEP and 504 process. Dr. Bobal specializes in supporting children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders, such as Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism, and Learning Disorders, as well as typically developing children who’s parents are looking for support with behavioral and socio-emotional functioning and coping. Other specialties include supporting children and adolescents with diabetes treatment adherence or adjustment to chronic illness.
As a prior early childhood educator and upstate NY native, Dr. Bobal is not afraid to get her hands dirty and find creative ways to connect with and understand your family. The vision of BTB evolved from her years in an array of child care settings, teaming up with parents to better understand their child’s symptoms, as well as work to put enjoyment back into the parenting process. Dr. Bobal practices with the emphasis on child/adolescent support and parental self-care.
Dr. Bobal believes that assessment doesn’t have to be confusing. Behavioral therapy doesn’t have to be rigid. Evidence-based practices and recommendations need to be individualized . She utilizes an out-of-the box, yet research-based approach that incorporates her perspectives from nearly all of your child’s settings (e.g., school, medical, home) to understand what’s behind the behavior.
